Had a woman contact us a while back saying she thinks she's our sister. DNA test confirmed it. Father wasn't happy we did the test but we thought she had the right to know.
At least now you know Dad was a "sporting man". :hide:

He's about as wise now (mid-70's) as he was when he was 19, unfortunately!

Atta boy. :cowboy:

If they tested my saliva, they'd say I'm half java, half Marb, and half saliva.

Where ya come from ain't nearly as important as where your going.
THAT was well stated!
Bah! Hum Bug! Spoken like a true commoner.
My governess always said we Blue Bloods should not listen to such nonsense. :)

I don't need any testing as it seems an Uncle of mine appears to be holding a very large sum of money for me and
according to that email he's a Nigerian Prince... so I'm definitely royalty.... :dunce:

I sent a sample into IBM, not even Watson could decode it.

It's tough being the creation of someone's imagination... :(

I would be afraid they would then sell my DNA to the highest bidder.

Sure would be neat to know though.

Mine would probably top out at around $1.50.

not much value to Central Virginia Redneck DNA around here....the woods are full of us...
with just a little work I have tracked my daddys family back to near the revolutionary war.
my mothers folk were more recent imports from Germany and England.

The ancestry test is not very specific. it is my understanding that some of the newer ones give a little better data.

The nationality deal isn't very useful. When they say "Great Britain", it includes much of Western Europe. Same way with Scandinavia.

But as far as ancestry it's been really helpful. I already had my family back 8 generations in every case but my dad's maternal grandfather. He was most likely illegitimate. I've found several people with DNA links who we can't figure out how we could be related. Hopefully I'll narrow it down one of these days. Kind of strange thinking he may not have known who his father was, but I might figure it out!

I've heard a lot of people claim some Native American blood (but Not enough to get Casino money)
I wonder how many actually have any.

Most that claim it have been told stories passed down that embellishes it. I have been told the same and went looking where I was told it come from on my Paternal side and found nothing except my great great Grandmother apparently just appeared on earth and married my GGgrandfather. several so called experts say that that is an indication that she was NA and never was included in a census before. and One census after they were married listed her as mullatto so she could have been. I did however find NA with a rich history and the daughter of a Chief On my Material side With a little work I could prove that heritage and get my Membership card with death certificates as the Creek nation does not require a blood quantum .

Same here....and seems they're always Cherokee.

We did it with Ancestry.com. Very enlightening but nothing much unexpected. I am having a good time running my families back in time. Told sky the other day that I had ancestors from his neck of the woods.

Cherokee would make sense in the South, largest surviving tribe in the usa and a large reservation in Oklahoma.

My cousin (by marriage) is an Ojibwa (aka Chippewa) and a Casino tribal member.
She's big into Native American culture, I got a kick out of it when she told me the Lakota (aka Sioux) disparagingly
refer to the Ojibwa as rabbit chokers.... so I now teasingly greet her with.... Hi Rabbit Choker.

A lot better then what our local tribe is referred to as.
