Nope not to make you feel guilty- just to make you think of it from a different perspective.
Us older people that smoke have known the consequences for years- and it wasn't enough then and it isn''t now the motivator to quit.
So why show it? Especially if it effects even one person(me). I would rather be dead than live with potential lasting consequences of what I have already done. I don't need to have that thought pattern reinforced. I am not the only quitter that thinks this way And there are LOTS of older smokers that think this way and its a major obstacle for them to even commit to quitting. If you were sincere in wanting to help people quit, I would think you would also want to know that that method backfires for some. A good one for us would be a person that quit and went on to live with no long term issues.

Again---It does have a GREAT place in encouraging those that haven't started or just recently started. But I doubt many on here fit that category.

I was a smoker until a couple of years ago but did not quit because the smoking was taking it's toll on me or people were telling me how bad it was for one's health. Luckily I have always been fit and the smoking had not effected me so that I was coughing or wheezing etc, internal damage is another thing though.

The reason why I quit.....

After contemplating life one day I came to the realisation that if I continued with my habit and I did fall ill who was going to look after me. Cart me up and down to hospital, make my food, feed me if necessary, if/when I could no longer do my own chores. Could I really expect this of my loved one's after I selfishly continued with a habit that has been proved detrimental to one's health.

If the habit is self inflicting and does not affect others all very well but smoking does.....

I would really like a good cigar. But I do inhale unlike bill Clinton. And that would lead to me smoking again. Not an option.

Howdy, my dad quit smoking at 72 years of age after a lifetime of smoking. He's from Greensboro so smoking was just something everybody did coming up. He feels better and is glad he made the move even though he waited so long. He's now 75 and has much more air capacity in his lungs and more physical endurance than before.

You can do the same if you want to.

Well, I'm joining the quitting club. I've decided to quit getting fat. Been eating clean foods for three weeks and working out. Gonna get ripped and sexier, if that's possible. Being 4 ft 8in and 318 pounds is taking a toll on me.

How about any time you get the urge to smoke, instead you play the harmonica? It might just work.

Well, I know I can get ticketed here for cell-phoning or texting while driving; not sure about harmonica-ing -- which I don't know a single thing about! :) I can fumble through about 3 pieces on an accordian, but I think there'd be a problem explaining THAT to a trooper, or even a sheriff's deputy!

Yea, I built a tiny house with tiny cabinets, and lots of rooms so I could feel big. Then I screwed up and married a 6ft blonde. Everything went well for a while till she started kicking my azz last week. I kicked her in the knee and ran out in the pasture, I'm hiding now behind a tree posting from my iPad.

Here is the vid that everyone can enjoy for quitting smoking. I haven't quit yet... don't have immediate plans to, but I haven't bought any cigs or tobacco for 8 months now... I grew my own last year and when I started smoking it, I had withdrawals from the chems in the commercial stuff.

Here's the vid

Good one. When I see a pretty lady standing out like that smoking, I say "You are way too pretty to want to smell like that smoke"
Oh, I hope I have someone to vote for next time.
