Either him....http://bullbarn.com/gelbepd.asp?ID=384

or this fella....http://bullbarn.com/gelbepd.asp?ID=375

or I might go crazy and breed her to this fella and try to win the NWSS......http://bullbarn.com/gelbepd.asp?ID=291

oc course with my luck she will end up bred to the Angus cleanup bull again!

You could breed her to a brown swiss and have a real elephant in the pasture. :D

Sorry 3Way, but unless she was weaning off at least 60% of her body weight, she would get a ride to town. No doubt she is a beautiful animal, but is she a functional animal. If she is eating twice the grass the other cows are eating, shouldnt she be expected to produce a Very large calf?

Yer right cutter but I don't see her weaning a 1200lb calf. I do see her weaning a 750 to 800lb bull with excellant conformation and the way she was bred he will be a good bull. What she truly is, is an ingredient to be used like any other ingredient...hopefully the right way!

She is functional however.........her function is to give me something to look at that makes me happy. The other cows have a different function. :cowboy:

So what is theeroblem with big cows? They breed big calf which turn into big cows which when sold have more beef on the bone for the slaughter house. Does this not equate into more money for rancher?

That is all true BUT they are not as efficient as smaller cows. Without going into a long winded explanation You can wean more pounds off of 12, 1200lb cows Than you can off of 10 1500lb cows, and in theory the 12 wil not eat as much as the 10.

Houstoncutter was totally correct in his assesment, however like I said her function is to make me happy when I look at her and to wean me that one larger bull that someone is going to want.
Like John Oswald told me when I bought her....."Nobody ever pulled in here and asked to see my smallest bull!"

Well she calved. Here he is at 2 weeks. I will post a picture when he is 2 months old. I wish I had a picture of her udder. It is still real good for a 7yr old cow!

She's a real nice cow. A little big for my tastes but it looks like she can put a powerful calf on the ground. Can't wait to see him at weaning. I'll bet he makes 750 lbs easy. Is he an AI calf or out of that Angus bull you posted last year?

I like those Atlas daughters you have posted. They are a lot more moderate framed!

How about that 2 month old picture you promised us? In fact you may as well post his weaning picture by now!

This is the kind of a cow that one should keep in mind when looking for a model breeding female - - always keeping in mind that her size is too big! The other phenotypical traits are in evidence to be kept as a template for reasonable comparison when planning breeding matches. She is beautiful, and keeping replacement females from her would save years of "breeding up" time so long as one uses bulls that will retain the good qualities and reduce the overall size. THAT is what determines whether a producer is a breeder rather than just a calf producer! "Qualitative" is far more important than just ". . having calves" in "Quantity".

This is another example of why understanding EPD's and using DNA Markers will save years of experimenting, and will separate the "Breeders" from the "Cow Fresheners".

You "Got 'Er Done" 3way!

Same calf @ 1 month. He is out of my VERY moderate Angus bull

Same calf @ 5 months. I am very glad that he has his mothers capacity and depth.

When we wean I will post that picture. I am hoping that he will hit 750 at weaning. I hope she is bred straight GelbviehImage to this bull. Lazy TV Sam this year but if not she is bred to a very p[owerful low papping Angus bull.
