Bought a gun instead of pie after dinner.

Postby Kathie in Thorp » Sun Mar 11, 2012 8:18 pm

We were in Monroe, WA, this weekend for their big annual muzzle loading and primitive arts show, which we hit every year. We spent 2 long days there, and nothing really tripped my trigger. Usually, I can find SOME little thing.

We went to dinner Sat. with a bunch of friends we only get to see once a year. In that same complex, there was a little gun shop, which was still open after dinner. So hubby and I wondered over there. I've had my carry permit for quite awhile, but usually only carry if I'm travelling by myself. But, I found the cutest little knee buster in that shop! A Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket .25 (hammerless); serial no. dates it at 1918. It's in really great condition. Better than chocolate cake!! :)

I have only missed two weekends in 2012 going to a gun show. I have a lot to learn though. I like the small pistols but am leary of the 25's for some reason. But that is one I would have tried also. Hope you got it at a good price.

Kenny -- Hubby is very sharp on the old guns -- Cabella's should put him on retainer for their big dollar rooms inventories! He said "good price, good investment." This is not a knock 'em dead with one shot gun, but it's better than a rough hairbrush or a car key. My preference is really for a point and shoot revolver, but this one was just too darn cute to pass up. Looks like this one, but this is an earlier serial no. than mine. http://www.coltautos.com/1908vp.htm

I think it is a very good little gun. I would buy it also at the right price. I love the older guns especially the colts and winchesters.
Just that I had an uncle shoot himself with a 25 when I was very young so I have always been a little scared of them. Not a good reason to be.

Kathie, was it blue or nickel? Any chance it was marked US Property? If pearl grips even better. Either way a nice pistol.

It's blued -- and the bluing is nearly flawless -- some wear, but really good condition. I think this probably sat in a dresser drawer for many years. No -- not pearl grips. Looks like the one I posted the link to.

Kenny, am curious what you think the "right price" would be. ?? :?:

In the condition you describe and blue anything less than $800 would be a good price.

Are you fr'icken serious, Kenny! Hubby thought it would hold value at $500. I paid way less than that. I think you just made my day. :D

As far as an investment goes great deal, as far as dropping it in your purse it is an anemic round at best.

Sounds great Kathie, (can't see the image am at school). I have a few 22's, 25's and 32's in the safe just cause they are "neat". Won't dispute it being weak, but great guns at fabulous prices have to be taken advantage of at the instant they are available.
God and family, the rest is icing on the cake.

A 25 in the purse is better then a 44 at home. Unless things really get sticky, just looking down the barrel of a 25 in the handsof someone that WILL use it is pretty intimidating

I don't want to be shot with a bb gun or anything else. It's just nut's to carry anything smaller than a 380 acp maybe a 32 H&R mag.
