Yep, and sometimes the more expensive land is worth the money if it has good fences and established grass. It ain't hard to spend the equivalent of an extra 500 per acre on a cheap place.

You must be getting OLD. That's like "If I won a million dollars I'ld spend most of it on wine, women and song and probably just waste the rest"

Chicken wire is wonderful for keeping chickens in their yard, it is entirely useless againt stray dogs that want to hang out with your chickens in their yard. :yuck:

You guys are great. We were just discussing grasses tonight along with the price of land. I found great information from UGA regarding foraging here in Georgia and grass management. They also had some budgets in there for us to work with. The average was about 200.00 per acre for seeding etc.

There are some great publications here: http://www.caes.uga.edu/commodities/fie ... /pubs.html

I read a lot of these posts and seldom reply
Nut for some reason I feel compelled to on this topic.

Two things have come up on here recently that should be restated...
1. There is no shame in dragging home an empty trailer

2. Iso's comment about better dirt that is established is worth the extra $. Cert isn't cheap and it doesn't take long to take too much out if u aren't putting something back.

I wish someone would have warned me that raising cattle is addictive and once you have the addiction you're pretty much lost!

It depends on the number of years you've been raising them. Independent studies show that anything over 30 years and you're pretty much a vegetable. Since I started with a very high IQ I still have some Brain cells left. How long have you been raising cattle CB? :cowboy:

That I would feel positively ill watching and waiting for my animals to be auctioned and that I would still feel that nervous/ill sensation in the pit of my stomach yet at the same time feel totally elated on the drive back home with a cheque in my hands......sort of like a traitor
