I apologize, I was speaking specifically about registered seed stock producers. I'm all for profit and I think a more consistent calf crop could help increase the number of bulls/heifers fit for sale.

I've always thought...Why should I buy a bull from a breeder who uses bulls from ten different programs? If they aren't confident enough in using their own genetics, why do they assume I would be?

Why are you apologizing? You were pretty clear in your points and none of your points would be classified as incorrect.

The ONLY reason we even have registered seed stock producers is to produce a product that serves the need of the commercial cattle industry. You can't even talk about registered seed stock without considering how those cattle work out in the pastures, sale barns, and feed lots of the real world. In the real world ALL of the bulls/heifers sell and they sell by the pound. Avg weaning weight is more important at the sale barn than the variation in the weaning weight (and I am not slamming consistency here) which really has more to do with reproductive efficiency than the sire of the calves. I am pretty open minded; but if the guy doesn't have SOME calves sired by nationally known breedwide sires to show me how his bull's calves compare I have doubts about him and his product.

I saw your discussion on Dilliard Polled Hereford 4013 bull. I have breed trask cattle for 30 years, I owned the sire and still have the grandsire. Please let me hear from you would love to discuss Trask genetics. Bill Hathcock

Welcome Bill. Were you aware of Mr. Trask going back to the original source for his linebreeding adventure after progressing for several years?

What are the registered names of the sire or grandsire. I was unable to get a pedigree on "Trask 4013" on the AHA pedigree search.

I saw the 4013 bull in person last week. I thought I would post a few photos.

I can't say that i don't like that bull. He looks like a moderate meat machine.

I've never found the pedigree on the 4013 bull on the AHA website. What is his registered name? From the pic, he looks like a Felton bull judgeing from the eyes and head.

alexfarms,

His papers are pending. His sire was one of Bill Hathcock's bulls who was a son of BTF 511 6007 (Reg #:23905741).

I've asked Bill for the details on the 4013 bull.

Alexfarms,

The 4013 bull's dam was TR AUSTINA E30 (Reg #23844395)

I'll pass on the sire's registration info as soon as I received it from Mr Hathcock.

Here is a photo of the 4013 bull's sire. I'm still waiting to receive his registration number.

Here is another Hathcock bred bull. He's a paternal half brother to the bull I just posted. Mr Hathcock sold him to Teddy Gentry at Bent Tree.
