We didn't go, but I heard that it was a bad, bad sale. Average was the lowest they've had there in years. We're thinking about taking some to the spring sale next year, so I asked for a sale report to see what class of cattle sold best/worst, but haven't received it yet.

Consignment sales like ALOT, Mid-Tex, etc., are pretty dependent on other small producers, either getting into the business or looking to upgrade their herds. With cattle prices down, there are just fewer people doing that. When people buy from larger operations, like Express, they're buying a program as much as a cow.

The ALOT fall bull sale is usually held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. They've cancelled it for this year. Just couldn't get enough bulls consigned to make it worthwhile. I'm not sure if that's because people are selling them off the ranch instead of through the sale ring or if they're cutting them and sending them to the feedlot. Either way, the downturn in calf prices will surely hurt bull sales next year.
