New here
I work for the U of A Cooperative Extension Service trapping feral hogs for private land owners in Northwest Arkansas. I work out of Green Forest and work in a 5 county area. Carrol, Newton Boone Marion and Searcy counties. Keeps me busy, at times have as many as 5 traps out at once.

Tell us about the trapping. Does the traps use your phone to catch the hogs?
My thoughts only, don't bet the farm on them. KT

Re: New here
Indeed, fascinating topic. Does on average one trap per county really have much of an impact. As I understand it these wild hogs are prolific breeders.kenny thomas wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2019 8:55 pmTell us about the trapping. Does the traps use your phone to catch the hogs?

Yes all out traps have remote technology . Cameras can be logged into any time day or night, cameras will also send you a text when it takes a picture. We use video cameras that will live stream the video to a phone or laptop. A text to the trap drops the door.
One trap per county won't do much, thats why we have the 5 traps.I may have a couple to all 5 traps set at any time in any of 5 counties. The most hogs i have caught in one night was 75 in two traps. We keep track of where and how many is caught in each of the 5 counties i work in and the area in each county they were caught in. For trap shy hogs we set up and shoot them. I can't say we are winning the war but i removed almost a 1000 head last year.

Re: New here
Government trapper here made a huge impact i feel. Our population was just getting started and he really slowed them down. How does a private landowner there get your service. Here we have to show a big impact to crops.

Re: New here

HC - do you have any cattle as a side project? Very impressive job you have. I guess I just never thought about catching multiple hogs in a trap, but if you are watching and releasing the door, that would work!!
Jinse - tell us about yourself.

I'm an evangelical minister. I bring church services to rodeos. I sometimes supply at Baptist churches (my actual denomination), and when time allows, I will do very short term interim work.Charbrangus wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 7:38 pmI'm new here.
