Squeeze chute alley way

Postby Gwhthd » Sat Oct 28, 2017 8:48 pm

Setting up my squeeze chute alley way. Recommendations on how wide to make it? Working calves and cows and bulls.

Most recommend 28" with sloped sides that get narrower at the bottom so its tighter on the, calves

My thoughts only, don't bet the farm on them. KT

Some people know people, who know people, who aren't very nice people and you could get a visit from them someday. So be good people.

I agree 28" seems to be the ideal all around width.

What I have found to work on the cheap is to make it 28" and if you are working calves, buy a couple cheap light weight cattle panels that you can move in to the last 10' of the alley. This will narrow it down to about 24" and keep most of the calves from turning around.
I have this on one setup and the panels have chain connections to make it very quick to move in and out.

if I ever build me another working set up I will build them adjustable with trailer jacks on the end to adjust the width. and a gate on the other side that if , when, one gets down open the gate and it is loose

Just built one to University of TN recommendations, which is 26". The alley way we tore down was 30 inches. which was too wide obviously. I figure 26 will be tight. But hope it works. Will find out next week.
