What do you think of my calves?

Huge rookie farmer. I don't even know if I can call myself a farmer. More like cow hoarder. Cow enthusiast maybe.

I got rid of my entire herd about 3 years ago due to some issues I was having with breeding. Got into bottle calves. Ended up keeping 4 and raising them up and breeding them. This is the first year I have now seen the result of the calves from those original bottle calves.

3 of the calves are 3/4 Black Angus and 1/4 Holstein. They came from the 1/2 Angus 1/2 Holstein bottle calves I got.
1 calf is from a calf I bought on Craiglist a few years back for a few dollars. Honestly I just felt bad for the thing so picked it up but her calves have been easy.

What do you guys think of my calves? They are all 2.5-3 months old. I think these are my best calves yet

Thanks! He's a good dog. Got him shipped up to us in Canada from Missouri. He is a coyote caller. Tricks coyotes to come up to the house and follow him home. He does good work and is very respected by our herd.

I’m confused...are those the bottle calves or from the bottle calves?

All 4 calves were born on cowgal's farm.
Red calf is from a cow that was purchased as a 'rough' calf on craigslist.
The 3 black calves are 3/4 angus out of cows purchased as 1/2 holstein bottle calves.

The 3 month old calves look good, as expected.
I'd be interested in pictures of their mothers. Often the question comes up:
What do 1/2 angus 1/2 holsteins look like as cows?
As hand raised first calf heifers I expect they'll look good too.

When I bought my Holstein X Angus bottle calves I picked out the ones that had the least amount of white on them. My girls only have white marks on their belly. And now their calves are pure black except one, one has a small white patch on its belly.

You can see the Holstein in them in their size, mainly in their height. They stand tall. They also look more boney than an angus and have that Holstein look in their hips and back end. Longer face, etc.

They have very big udders which I think is why my calves are so chubby this year. I have also had no issues with their mothering abilities. I had heard rumors about Holsteins not being great mothers. But also that Angus' are great mothers. So it seemed to work here because I have had no issues.

I have found they require more grain than my pure bred beef cows. Either that or I'm just not used to seeing their ribs.

They were a good investment for me. Easy keep because they are so friendly.
