Small gate in barbed wire fence

Post by Bcompton53 » Sun Mar 31, 2019 9:54 am

I’m putting up some barbed wire, and I want to put a 5 foot metal gate in a 1/4 mile stretch. Can I just put in two 2 7/8 posts 5 1/2 feet apart and tie them together at the top with a pipe?this would be cheaper than doing a brace on each side, but it seems like it would hold fine. Thoughts? Opinions?
I could also weld in a pipe at the bottom if needed. Like below (if it shows up right)

Looks like it'll do just fine to me, as long as you are pulling evenly from each direction.

Right. It wasn’t the gate support that I am concerned about, it was just whether putting on a single tied in post would be ok.

I might want to weld in an angle brace at each top corner to keep it square in case the fence gets tighter on one side than the other.

I have several with just barbed wire at the top. Been in place many years. I occasionally have to tighten the wire.

Thanks to all. I'll plan on doing this then. Beats having to climb barbed wire.
