Bang's Disease

Postby Stocker Steve on Wed Nov 04, 2009 10:43 pm

Years ago a lot of cattle were calf hood vaccinated for Bang's. It is no longer common in Minnesota.

Are there any states in the mid west that require it for importation of breeding stock?

Oh yes, they do. Any brucellosis free state will require it if cattle are coming from a non-free state. As far as brucellosis (Bang's) vaccination is concerned, it isn't a bad idea to continue if you forsee exporting cattle. California comes to mind (not midwestern, I know) as they absolutely require it for breeding age females to be imported, unless they are too young or are of the age they can still be vaccinated after import.

If you are interested in state import requirements go to: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export ... ates.shtml
