It was 60 below F on several thermometers a few miles away and 900 feet lower on Tuesday.

-30 Celsius on our reading right now.

Warmed up to about zero F! Next winter storm coming in - - predicting 7 to 9 inches of snow and wind up to 35 mph. Pulled a polywire cross fence so cattle could pick a spot to shelter out in the bale grazing field.

Cold this morning, and the snow blowing tractor' tank heater quit... :( Time for a trip to town.
When you say tank heater, I'm assuming you're referring to the radiator? Do you have any special procedures for handling or heating diesel fuel in those temps? Is gelling a major problem there?

We definitely don't get as cold, but all our farm diesel delivered is already a "winter blend" - but we always put an additive in each tank - like Howes - and we have an engine heater (oil?).

Balmy -2F here right now. Sure don't need anymore snow; should be close to 4' after this next storm.

Old time solution is to use a blend of #1 and #2 diesel, but that does not work in some newer improved JD equipment with fewer but ultimately tighter fuel filters.

Gelling is an annual problem here, in part because Minnesota requires selling biodiesel #2 until 11/1 each year. I have a dedicated #1 tank and put in additives and keep filters on hand.

If all else fails, like last winter, I add a little gasoline to the diesel. Its an old trucker trick. :cowboy:
