We did it - again

Post by Jeanne - Simme Valley » Tue Sep 24, 2019 5:48 am

Our cow-calf pair were Grand Champion at the Big E in Springfield, MA. This show was bigger than our NYSF - had over 85 head of Simmental entered. Lots of cow/calf pairs. I believe there were 8 pairs in the 2-year old class. This was our LAST show for this season - bull is getting weaned!!! We will be running the steers & him thru the chute for vaccines this week. I will post his weight.

Glad to see the increased interest up there. I met a Simmental family from Maine in Louisville at the National Classic.

Congratulations

Who says there aren't any good red Simmental bulls?

Jeanne they don’t come much better than that bull right there. How long do you plan on hanging onto him?

Thanks all.
TT - LOL!!! Touche
Holm - he has been sold for about 2 months. Just need to get him over weaning and he is GONE!!! Could have sold him at least 10 times. A vet that checked us in tried to buy him, the Superintendent at Big E tried, lots of interest.
Hope she has a January heifer next year!!! Bred 3/23 to Pendleton's brother, Red Answer.

Thank you. Nice compliment from you. I know you raise top notch bulls. He is now weaned. Didn't take long. They have always been separated during the day. Mom should have been VERY READY to get him off of her. Didn't get the calves worked this week, so will do it next week and will get a current weight on him. He weighed 790# on 8-1.

Well, we worked the male calves through the chute on 10-1. Our bull weighed 1005# - exactly 9 months old. 3.70# gain a day for past 61 days - nothing outstanding. His dam was 1225#. He got weaned on 9/24. Did not upset him very much. He was used to being separated from dam for 12 hour periods for months now. He is now mowing down the grain, getting group fed with the other calves. Never ate much grain while on the show circuit. Mom's milk was pretty much all he wanted - and hay - lots of hay.
