Any recommendations on what camera to buy?

Postby ohiosteve » Sat Dec 10, 2011 9:59 am

I am getting ready to upgrade from my daughters pink Barbie camera. Any recommendations on what to buy in the $200-$300 dollar range?

My favorites have been Canon cameras, in both DSLR and digital cameras. I've really liked both cameras I've had from them. I've never mad much luck with the Nikon Coolpix digital cameras. The pictures have always seemed to look grainy and I've had issues with batteries with Nikons.

Stay away from Kodak cameras, my SIL used one and had issues with fuzzy pictures. When she asked someone at a camera store why it was, they said that Kodaks are known to not take as clear as pictures as other brands with the same megapixels. Personally i prefer Nikons.
You may think the grass is greener of the other side, but if you take the time to water your own grass it will be just as green.

Here ya go. I bought last years version of this camera and I am blown away at the capabilities.

The thing that hooked me was the 14 megapixels and the LEICA lens system.

Check Best Buy they might have it cheaper but this is THE ONE

Anyone using Fujifilm?
I had my Ricoh checked today and been told it's not worth repairing. Fuji is the preferred brand in the shop though they can order in whatever I ask for... going to have to wait till I can afford it anyway.
The F series is what I'd be looking at. They've also got a waterproof, shock proof digital camera - but picture quality is sacrificed for the robustness. I'm thinking I'd rather stay with Ricoh, especially since I've started to learn how to use the CX1.

I really liked my Fuji camera's. Nice clear shots, good color etc.

Ford or Chevy? :D

I had the EOS 650. I have an EOS digital now. My multipliers and lenses as well as all attachments are universal. I also have the pocket version. So my preference is obviously Canon. The capability of those little cheap pocket cams are amazing these days.

I have never been published with a digital photo. I have had several 35mm pics published.

Get a Canon Elph.
My son has one and it fits in his pockets and he can carry it anywhere.

I have the Canon Powershot SX10IS. My folks have the Rebel. We love our Canons.

Ohio- I've been happy with the Sony Cyber Shots. You can buy them cheap, or get all the features.....Its all what you want to spend. Easy to use, like the Barbie camera, and they take good, clear pics. Good luck on what ever you or Santa picks.

It took a while, but finally got a new camera. I took 3-waycrosses advice and went with Panasonic Lumix, got the DMC-SZ02 16 mega pixels and 20x zoom. 150 bucks and we really like it, even easier to use than the old Barbie camera! Took some random pictures yesterday evening here's a few.
This is Curly-top and unfortunately her time has come. open almost a year been with multiple bulls. She will live on though having her head mounted. Beautiful animal with great personality, will miss her.

Just a black and white picture right after a pasture move. The 3 wk old longhorn cross calve is already riding!
Image
My inner pasture fencing is quite simple, step in plastic posts, poly-wire and extension cord rollers. cheap and they work well.
Image
Last photo of this calf as an intact bull. I usually cut and pull but flies are so bad I rubber-banded this dude.

I like sharing random pictures, I wish more folks did the same!

Glad you like your camera Steve. I sure do like mine. The only problem is sometimes having to decrease the megapixels in order to take a picture that will upload.

That reel came from either Wal-mart or Lowes about 3 years ago. I like it because I can use one hand while unrolling. It works much better than some of the much more expensive reels designed for portable fencing.

The reason I asked is that I have a couple of reels similar to the one in your pic. The current reels being sold are junk, with little or no UV additive. Obviously the company has either changed ownership or management. IMO if whomever is in charge does not revert to the quality that previously existed we will be buying from an offshore supplier before long.
