Discussion Topics - What's Off Bounds on this Forum

Postby skyline on Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:37 am

OK, I've been on this forum on and off for a while now. I appreciate this board and the abilility to connect to others around the world that share my interests. I enjoy the folks on here and I enjoy the discussions. But I have a question.

I don't understand what qualifies and doesn't qualify for an allowable topic. I have read the topic about "no politics" from Mr. Gravlee and I think I understand those limits pretty well. Is religion off bounds? Is discussing the motives that a man might have for killing a dozen people on a US military installation off bounds? Is that considered politics? I'm just curious and I truly want to understand the rules so that I can try to stay within them.

Have you read the rules? I think religion, abortion and politics are about the only things that are not to be discussed here, though we could probably through race in there, too. The problem is that someone starts a thread and others have to bring their religious/policial views into it. And it gets locked. Watch this one and you'll see what I mean. :)

Thanks Frankie. Yes I have read the rules. I'm not trying to start anything here. Far from it. I'm trying to understand the gray areas. There was a topic deleted this morning and another one locked. I'm just trying to understand.

Skyline it appears that subjects relative to religion can be discussed so long as it remains civil and folks do not start attacking anothers "theology" . As for politics...seems mods lock those threads based on their mood at the time they read them and depending on which side is posting. Politics was probably allowed to be discussed much more frequently prior to the most recent presidential election.

Maybe it's just something about Peg... LOL, seems you are becoming the queen of lock downs!

Of course I'm just joking. I think some things are pretty clear cut, but as was stated before, I think it's also kind of depends what kind of mood the mod is in.

Anyone know who the mods are, beside Macon? I have wondered a bit about this and would like to know as long as you don't have to kill me if you told me.

I understand. There are several Mods. You'd have to ask each one why they deleted a particular topic. And they don't have to tell you. In spite of what some people think, this board doesn't belong to the posters. Macon's www.ranchers.net site has a political page that is pretty wide open to whatever someone wants to post (within reason) yet some people just won't stop pushing the envelope here.

If moderators can lock and delete threads, why are they allowed to debate?

Why would they bother to come to this board if they're not allowed to post?

IF you're a mod why would you not be disciplined enough NOT to post to a thread that had to do with a prohibited topic?? Even worse is to make the last post and then lock the thread.

To earn extra income. Moderators don't get paid?

A judge should excuse himself in a trial if he is related to a defendant to prevent conflict of interest. Agree?

Like I said, it's Macon's board. I guess if he's not happy with the Mods, he'll tell them so. I don't think YOU get to decide how things are run here. My suggestion to those of you not happy with the way the board's being run: PM Macon and volunteer your services.

Macon has referred to them as volunteers.

Sure a judge should excuse himself.  But this is a privately owned internet discussion board, not the US legal system. Macon is the sole judge and jury of what goes on here. If you're not happy with the rules/enforcement, I'd suggest you send him a PM. Who knows? He might change the whole system to satisfy you.

See what I mean, Skyline? :D
