Igloo dog house

Post by cowboy43 » Sun Jul 14, 2019 10:55 am

Texas 100 degree heat , dog tied on west side of house ,no shade only thing for dog is a igloo dog house. I witnessed this as I drove by the location several times in the afternoon, the dog never was in the dog house just sitting and panting, I would never do this to an animal, I called the Sheriff dept. to investigate. I talked to the officer this morning, he said he saw nothing wrong the dog had shelter and water. The dog looks like a golden retriever, the house is a small igloo dog house like you buy at wal mart or tractor supply. I just saw a story where those houses get 130 degrees inside just like a car builds up heat inside. Am I over reacting to the situation, and should just mine my on business. To me it is just like putting a child in that situation.

It would irk me too but I would not equate it to child abuse.

I had one for my dogs, course it was for shelter from rain and cold winds as it was in the shade under some trees. One problem I had with it was wasps liked it too.

Overreacting? Nooo ... after all everyone knows dogs are people too.

You reported it to the sheriff and even followed up only to find they disagreed with your
assessment. What do you want to do next... organize a posse to force a rescue of another
person's dog/child? Let it go.

Perhaps you should consider volunteering at a hospice, a nursing home or preschool/day care
where your services can do some good and your gentle heart will be appreciated.

Sort of like a calf hutch on gravel? What a way to sweat off excess weight.

Cowboy, I saw the same story on Facebook with a pic of the thermometer at 130 degrees. Is it true? Dunno - I have no knowledge of Igloo dog houses. But there are some neighbors a couple miles away that continue to adopt dogs from the Humane Society & leave them in atrocious conditions - by my standards. As well as their horses & goats; fortunately they have no cattle. Another neighbor has called the Sheriff but as long as there's food & water, at least a tree for "shelter", there's really nothing they can do. That said, when the dogs aren't chained they make it over to our place a lot. They (so far) haven't bothered the cattle and I feel so sorry for them I feed them, give them treats. Rewarding bad behavior? Being too compassionate? Since there's evidently nothing that can be done for the welfare of these dogs it at least makes me feel a little better.

I have 2 of them I've been trying to give away for a year now, and you're right..wasps love them and so do black widows.
I've never had a dog that would spend a single night in one no matter how wet or cold it was, but my pen has a roof over it too.

Really?!?
You would lower child abuse to equivalent of chaining a dog outside with food, water and a shelter?
Chaining a dog is not a crime = child abuse is not a crime.
