Both excellent guns but I'll stick with my trusty old 30-06.

Under 300 yards not much the 270 cant do as good as or better than the 06 with less recoil. Its bullet choice.

Out past 300, the 30 cal gives you way more options.

I agree with Dun. If Whitetails or an occasional Muley are as large as you will be after, I would prefer 25-06. Little more speed and little less kick. Can't go wrong with any of them.

Yep-- I'd go with 06- just because it can handle so many different bullet weights and loads....

I think probably the30-06 would be the best choice but since I'm a small feller and don't like the hammer on my bony shoulder I mainly use a 308.

That is not an easy question to answer depends on what you are hunting I have an OLD .270 Rem that it would take a semi haul all the game , whitetail deer, mule deer, elk ,antalope ,wild hogs, beaver ,dogs coyotes and even some crows, that it has killed, have used it so much that I had to have 2 inches cut off the barrel an recrowned . But everything listed I will not say it is the best gun for the game so it depends what you are useing it for . I also have a .243 that goes every where I go in the tractor on the four wheeler stays in the pickup it has killed its share of game also but somethings it is not big enough for . also have a 45-70 i use in thick brush and when dogging deer that kicks like a mule but they won't go far when you bust a deer with it. so you just tell the wife you need another gun and give somekind of a reason and buy several that you have one every need

I grew up reading Jack Occonnor so when I saw this thread it made me think of him again.
I rifle hunt deer with a .300WM now but I wish I had the .270 back that I shot most of my deer with.

Here is a quote from an online page I pulled up when I googled Jacks name. If you ever want to read some great hunting stuff just google mr occonnor and dream away.

Perhaps O’Connor’s most lasting professional contribution was as the shooting editor for Outdoor Life. He brought his expansive knowledge of guns to readers and offered insight earned over years in the field. He was also extremely influential and almost single-handedly popularized the .270 as the rifle to own for a generation of hunters. It still remains the most popular rifle among American hunters today.

Absolutely.....it's what YOU feel best shooting. Not unlike your favorite fishing bait. ;-)

243
270
7mm mag and at least 5 other cal. are all great guns . just depends on how much KICK you want...A WELL PLACE SHOTS ,TRUMPS CAL. ALWAYS
