Very good read on why to use a cross breeding program and what to expect from it.

A well written article. Are you thinking about going Brahman X ? ;-)

from article:
The Two-Breed Rotation

A single-breed cow herd is mated to sires of a second breed:

Simple
Cow herd is a single breed
Only one breeding group
Maximizes breed influence
15% increase in weight/cow exposed
No source of replacements

so if breeding a red angus cow to a hereford bull, is this article stating that a heifer from this cross would not be good for a replacement heifer?

No, it is saying all your cows will always be RA, so the F1s do not qualify.

i am a little slow so please bear with me. it's saying there would not be any RA replacements, but it's not saying that the F1s wouldn't be good for replacements for the herd?

Yes, it says you have no RA heifers. If you did retain the F1s, then you would be one of the other types of herds in the listed.

Yes, it is not saying F1s are bad. Rather, they are trying to show how much more productive a F1 cow is for commercial operations.

It is very hard to sell a terminal bull in my area. Could be because most folks don't have a profit target.
