I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about the cattle breeding practices used in the Wyoming Territory around the 1880's-1900's? I'm looking for common breeds of the time, castration practices, what ages they branded and what ages that they separates calf from mother... Stuff like that.
This information is for a fictional novel that I am in the process of writing. I am looking for the best known high quality beef breed (or type) of the time and also hoping to mix in 1880's-1900's breeding practices of a quarter horse breeder as well. (I know they weren't a "official breed" yet, but they were being developed.) Just in case anyone around here knows quarter horses too. For the horses I'm looking for breed type of the 1880's and gelding practices if any of that time.
Thanks in advance!
