Burn Barrels

At least you guys get to burn trash. In my county it's illegal. To get a burn permit they inspect whatever you're going to burn, and lumber and trash is a no no.

CB, back in the day when we had burn barrels we took a pick and poked holes in the sides like you described. It was quick and easy.

I have used waste oil for a heater in the shop. There are plenty of plans for DIY on the internet. You can buy furnaces for home heating that use waste oil.

Good set up and what I was going for. The drawback is you had better have a good supply of barrels as they will not hold up through to many burns at that temp. I also disagree with the guy on the emissions. Just because you cannot see them it does not mean they are not there, although they are reduced because of a more complete burn.
I have a home foundry so am familiar with the high heat. If you want to build something like this it needs to be lined with refractory.

That would help for sure. Could probably use concrete, maybe use a piece of concrete driveway tile turned up on its end.
