"Freedom" Red Clover

Post by Chuckie » Sat Aug 06, 2005 2:15 pm

Has anyone looked at the new red clover that was produced for hay? It is called "Freedom." It is a red clover that has no fuzz or hair on the stem. This means faster drying time and no itch and better air quality for humans and cattle. I can find info about it, but cannot find any prices or where it can be purchased. Maybe someone has seen a test field of it or has planted it. Here are a few sites giving info about the clover.

Chuckie - I tried to locate "Freedom" Red clover, but had no luck. However here is a site which might interest you. I know only what this material claims, but it might be worth to explore the possibilities!

Doc, that site has a lot of info on it. The Freedom! seed may not be out yet to the public. I finally found a salesman from Barenburg USA, for forage in the Southeast, and I sent him an email trying to find out what business or companies sold the seed. I'll pass the on the info when I receive it for anyone interested in checking into the clover.

Chuckie - At the bottom left of that website on clovers is a "click here" notice that mentions Freedom! clover.

Thanks Doc! I didn't click on the guide before since they didn't show Freedom! in the list. I emailed them asking for a price or a dealer that I could purchase the seed from. Thanks for drawing that to my attention.

You are very welcome. That is what these posts are all about - helping each other as much as possible. There is S-O-O-O-O-O-O much information on absolutely everything that there is no way that one person can assimilate it all! I am watching RFD-TV right now, and Ag PhD is on with the Hefty Seed Co. Brothers talking about Corn rootworm problems and certain weeds and their control.. If this information had been available years ago, and as easily accessible as it is today - we would all be more successful in our Agriculture BUSINESS than we are today. - - - -and the Cattle Show is on - - -RIGHT NOW!!! Gotta' go :D :D

Doc, Mark Thomas, a salesman with Barenburg USA said that last years crop of seed was gone. He said that when this years crop is ready he would let me know. I also wrote the website you wrote about. The salesman there said they didn't carry "Freedom!"

Yep, I had rather have new seed as old. Nothing like paying big bucks for old seed that will not germinate. But Barenburg USA never responded to when they harvested the seed. I wonder why they post all these studies on clover for the years they have, but yet it doesn't seem to be easily obtained. I have a feeling by the time I find out, it will all be gone or can't afford to plant it. I was surprised that Ampacseed has "Freedom!" listed on their site if they didn't sell it.
