Best Barbed Wire ???

Post by MidArk » Mon Jan 28, 2019 9:41 am

About to start fencing a new place. Started using Field Fence a few years back, but have not been tickled with it. Looking for suggestions on Barbed Wire Brands. Thanks in advance.

One of the members here is a distributor...maybe 2 members. I've not heard anything bad about it at all and several other members have said it was everything it claims to be. The only negative I've heard said was it was a bit more pricey.

I like Tornado barb wire. I get it from Farm Fence Solutions. I have used Bekaert high tensile. I like Tornado better.

Whatever you use use a 14 gauge hightensil four point.
Staytuff
Bekaert
Tornado all good wire.
Tornado has a little tighter twist and is a little softer. It's very good wire. The wooden spools however suck. I mean you can baby them and most do ok. But the other brands you can throw of a cliff and they still unroll.
It's ashamed they won't listen.

The "best" barbed wire is what ever is already on the posts so I don't have to mess with it.

That said you just don't see the high tensile wire being used around here. I wonder if it is one of those regional things and if there is a reason behind it.

Funny you mention that, I noticed the same thing in certain areas of the Midwest and farther, seems they only like to use non-high tensile wire. Very prevalent in areas where long stretches are commonplace. Always wondered if it was just a mindset, or if folks thought the non-HT wire would absorb more stretch and "store" it to help keep the fence tight?

Around here using high tensile is pretty much a sin. Anyone who used it is concidered “broke, cheap a$$, dirt farmer.” that’s what I’ve been called in the last month. I stretched a mile of stay tuff around the first of the year, people can say whatever they want. I will be using 14ga high tensile from now on.

I would say Gaucho is number one around here. Made in San Antonio I think will have to google it.
