The steers did rather well. Heifers were about even with most other sales I think.

Did you have any selling there?

Sometimes you do have to throw out the babies with the bath water.

Yes.
I think you are right about the heifers, the smaller ones in particular, though I feel they probably sold somewhat better there as the Hereford dock would come into play during a regular sale day.

I think a lot of the problem with the dock is not very many come through the sale barns, so the order buyers don't have an order for them. I have seen some uniform lots of them come through at the OKC sales and the dock is very small if any.

It made me think that there is a opportunity there for the local buyers that go to a sale everyday. Gather a few here and there until you get a decent amount to sell as a group and ship them North.

The demand is so poor that some of the sales pull them out of the regular calf part of the sale and run through with the secondary stuff.

They sold better than Herefords do here. However the BWF were cheaper than they are here. I would love to buy those 405 pound BWF heifers for $1.21. That is a good 20 cents under what they would bring here.

Allow me to change my estimate on those BWF heifers. Today they would have brought $1.66 -$1.68. My rear end has hand prints from me sitting on my hands.

Talked to the sale coordinator, he thought it was all in all a good sale said he was worried going into it. He said that the small heifers like that did go too cheap he thought, but he also said that at the regular sales the lightweight Hereford heifers were bringing under $1.00 lb so at least they did better than that. Our cattle in the east generally will sell cheaper than in the west regardless of quality.
