99 Yamaha Big Bear

Postby Caustic Burno » Wed Aug 15, 2012 1:52 pm

I have been working on the neighbor's for two day's.
Never seen anything quite like it. The float in the carb had just fell apart and the O ring under the needle valve as well.
Like to have never got the little pieces of plastic cleaned out.
The only thing I could contribute it to was ethanol in gas now.
Ya'll seen anthing like this?

Yep, like u said, ethonal in the fuel. Ethonal disenagrates plastics that aren't specialy made for it. He prob got that E90 fuel at a gas pump by mistake. Youl be lucky if u can save the internals of that carb.

It's a great paint remover. Try it. I keep a small can for that. Heaven forbid I put it in an engine.

There are benefits to ethonal, really to many to go into.. BUT 1 disadvantage is not being able to use it in an older model engine or anything with a carb. Its fine for these new fuel systems that are made ethonal friendly. But u shouldnt run anything higher then E15 in a carburated engine, or your just asking for a headache.

Man ethanol is killing small engines, even 10%, is degrading the floats and needles. Over head gas systems , like on the mid size walk behind mowers, bypass the carb and flows into the oil reservoir. Obviously this ruins the oil filter and oil. Everyone needs to start adding a stabilizer to their small engine gasoline.

My wife ran regular with out the ethanol for a month in her 2001 deville. The mileage increased to 24 mpg from 21mpg. The gas was only 15 cents more expensive. This was Senator Grassley idea and subsidies were provided to keep the corn growers happy. And blenders are given 15 cents a gallon for blending adding it to the blend of the gas.

By law corn has to go to ethanol before feed our's or livestock.
To top it off the politican's lined their pocket's off the corn lobby while picking our's.
By adding ethanol it reduce's fuel mileage increasing our taxes.
This country runs on a gallon of diesel,a bushel of corn, wheat and a bale of cotton.
The EPA fixed diesel for us Congress fixed corn. Dam I wish they would quit helping me.
