OMAHA, Neb., (January 29, 2009) – One hundred forty-two Purebred Shorthorn cattle walked the ring of the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colo., over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Sunday and Monday, January 18-19 to compete for the title of the 2009 Champion Shorthorn. Lead judge, Mark Ebling of Cleburne, Texas, evaluated the 109 Shorthorn females and 33 bulls.
Reece Klug of Columbu, Neb. claimed the Grand Champion Female honors with SULL SOLUTIONS MARGIE ET, which was the Senior Champion Division Female. This February 27, 2007 born female was sired by CF SOLUTION X. The March 20, 2007 female, CF LUCKY CHARM 773 BS X ET, owned by Autumn Robison, Markle, Ind., claimed Reserve Grand Female honors. Robison's female is sired by HD BLOODSTONE 603 and was the Junior Champion Division Female.
Capturing the title of Grand Champion Bull was TM GUS 36S, sired by EIONMOR MR GUS 80C, and was the Senior Bull Division Champion. The February 20, 2006 bull is owned by Twig & Mary Marston of Norfolk, Neb. and Stacy Fischer of Great Bend, Kan. The Reserve Bull was SB PFC PROUD VENTURE WH ET owned by Sharben Shorthorns of Sharpsburg, Kent., Cates Farms of Modoc, Ind., Caney Valley Farms of Lakeland, FL, and Little Cedar Cattle Co of Beaverton, Mich. This March 8, 2007 bull was sired by DUNBEACON VENTURE and was the Junior Bull Division Champion.
