    Spring turn out

Let them out on cereal rye today. My last two fall calvers and our hay burners. Please forgive the thin cow, don’t know what’s up with her. No loose manure. The four have been getting just shy a bucket of shell corn most days. The little heifer is in way better shape than the 4 year old. Both...

    Patching an automatic waterer

Best way to patch this? I’m thinking screw some flashing with silicone on it. Am I on the right track?

    Rio max tubs

Anyone familiar with these? The price tag is enough to make you grab your heart and stagger down the hall like a drunken sailor.

    First of the year

Nice lively heifer calf. Out of my oak hollow bull. Momma is a TJ Frosty daughter.

    Stockade mineral

Anyone familiar with this brand? They have quite a few products, a couple of which sell through TSC. With their bulk rate, makes them a decent price assuming the quality is decent.

    Old time champ

My 2nd cousin, the family historian, posted this on Facebook. His brother is in the article about the construction accident. The other man unfortunately died from complications. I thought the champion steer was interesting. Still under the influence of the belt buckle era.

Best foods for a sour belly

I sit here at 3 in the morning, been up 3-4 times with bad stomach cramps and all that goes with it, I’m wondering what foods are your go to’s in this situation? Saltines and Campbells chicken noodle soup, cream of wheat are mine. Gatorade to help rehydrate. Give me some ideas, I’ll need...

    Whole shelled corn supplement pellets

What are you all using? I’ve been looking around and everything I’ve found seems pretty pricey, putting feed costs up to $300 a ton range with corn at $4.50 per bushel (160/ton) for a 13% blend. Most 32-40% pellets come in at close to 50 cents per pound. Anyone finding anything cheaper? I can...

Stirring the pot on the LH/corriente topic

Here we go, I thought I would smack the hornets nest and get a good one going. How cheap do LH/corriente type cows need to be to make money on them? I’ve stumbled on some fairly close to home for $400 a pop. Supposed to be bred, to similar type I assume, I’m waiting for more info on that...

    Ford 5610

My old 706 Farmall has finally laid down on me, and is going to require some major surgery to be useful again. It’s time for something a little handier to Mount/dismount, better hydraulics, etc. Found a 5610 ford FWA with a loader. Price is right and it’s an hour from home. Anyone with any...

    Opening morning firearm season

My 15 year old nephew got him this morning with his new 350 legend. Right at daybreak in Wabash County. A family friend got this one recentlybow hunting. My brother is doing a European mount for him.

    Champion Power Equipment

Anyone have any experience with this brand? Needing a pump for water leak repairs, the price is right. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/champion-power-equipment-2-in-semi-trash-water-transfer-pump-with-hose-and-wheel-kit

    Corn fed

Turned some of the girls onto a corn stalk field today. Some are already finding a few ears, some are more interested in the little winter annuals like in picture three. The fourth picture shows the remnants of the cereal rye I wet baled this spring before planting corn. I got 56 5x5 wet bales...

    Westendorf loader

I’ve been looking for a loader for an IH 1066. I found a westendorf wl42. Appears to be in good shape, other than faded paint which will match the tractor. I’ve read reviews that say they’re better than the IH 2350. Anyone have any experience with the westendorf?

Best use of old stock trailer

I have an old24ft trailer with two cuts. I’ve been debating on the best way to use it. I’ve considered making it an alley way or settling up feeders along the length to make a feed bunk/catch pen. Ideas?

Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

My middle daughter caught the rodeo bug this summer, and a local saddle club series had a parents rodeo fundraiser to close out the season. Ole dad thinks it would be fun to get in on the action, so I sign up for chute dogging and steer riding. Dogging goes well, I didn’t have the fastest time...

    Gate jumper

Weaned this bull calf today for around a half hour. Caught him, a couple other calves and a few culls. He never acted out of the way, sorted and loaded easily. Took him a half mile to my weaner pen, had nine head already there. Got home and started washing the trailer and the phone rang, calf...

    Hay analysis

Had some hay tested for the first time. Both were put up right. We’ve been dry this year so timing hasn’t been a problem.
